What’s the optimal print resolution for a thermal label printer—203, 300, or 600 dpi—if it’s important for barcodes to be readable by all scanners, but also to avoid overloading the device’s memory and wasting printing time?

For thermal printers, the choice between 203, 300, and 600 dpi usually comes down to a balance of quality and performance. If barcode readability by most scanners is important, 300 dpi seems optimal.

Options with a resolution of 203 dpi are appropriate if printing shipping labels is all you need, where functionality is more important than detail. 600 dpi is an option if very small text, graphics, or miniature bar codes are required, but it’s going to take additional time and require much more memory from the device. When selecting a printer, consider that the most up-to-date thermal label printers UK are already engineered for this balance so that you do not overload the printer or waste time.
