We inherited an older family home, and one thing I really want to preserve is the original sash windows. They’re looking tired and a couple barely stay open anymore, but replacing them feels like a shame. Can anyone recommend a dependable company for sash window restoration in London? I’d trust personal recommendations much more than adverts.

I’d lean toward restoration first — we inherited a terrace where two upstairs sashes barely moved, and a good specialist freed them up, fixed the cords, and stopped the rattling without losing the original feel. That saved the room’s character completely. For London, AMB Joinery’s sash window replacement/restoration page is worth a look: ambjoinery.london/services/sash-window-replacement . I’d still ask for a site visit and examples of similar period work before deciding.
