Our old townhouse has beautiful original sash windows, but a couple of panes are cracked after years of wear. I really don’t want modern-looking replacements to spoil the character of the place. I’ve been looking into heritage glazing but would prefer someone with proper experience in older properties. Can anyone recommend a reliable company for this type of work?

We had cracked panes in our old sash windows and were determined not to lose the original character. A general glazier suggested modern replacements, but the finish didn’t feel right for the townhouse. We then spoke with slim double glazing for listed buildings , who seemed to understand the quirks of older properties. They matched the replacement glass to the existing style, repaired the damaged sections and left the frames intact. The result looks natural rather than newly installed. I’d send photos and ask about suitable heritage options.
