Hello everyone.

Has anyone read about a man who developed a severe cannabis dependency after a single video consultation with a private clinic, paying around £1,000 a month, which his family says contributed to his suicide after 18 months?

What do people here think about how private cannabis providers are being regulated? Should there be stricter oversight on prescriptions, especially via remote consultations, to prevent potential addiction and mental health decline like in this case?

I’d really like to hear your thoughts on the balance between access to medicinal cannabis and safety.

I’ve read about cases like this, and it’s really concerning. A single video consultation leading to such a severe dependency highlights how vulnerable patients can be, especially when treatment is largely unmonitored. Paying £1,000 a month adds another layer because there’s a financial incentive for clinics to continue prescribing, which could conflict with patient safety. In this case, the role of the Curaleaf Clinic has raised questions about how private providers manage prescriptions and monitor patients.

I do think stricter regulation is needed, particularly for remote consultations. Clear guidelines, regular check-ins, and monitoring for dependency or mental health issues could help prevent tragedies. Access to medicinal cannabis is important, but safety and oversight must come first.
