I’ve been trying to choose a VPN recently, and one thing that keeps coming up is this “no-logs” claim. A lot of services say they don’t store user activity, but I’m not sure how you can actually verify that. I don’t have a technical background, so it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s just wording on a website. I mostly want something reliable for everyday use, especially when I’m on public Wi-Fi, but I don’t want to blindly trust marketing claims either. How do you usually check if a service is actually not keeping logs?

I ran into the same question when I first started using a VPN more regularly. What helped me was looking beyond just the main page and actually reading their privacy policy, even if it takes a bit of time. Some services explain in more detail what data they collect and what they don’t. I also try to see if there’s any independent information about how they handle connections and infrastructure. While digging into this, I found https://toggle.org/ , which helped me better understand how VPNs route traffic and what “no logs” typically means in practice. It’s not always something you can fully prove as a user, but transparency and consistency in their explanations usually say a lot.

Over time I’ve noticed that people are becoming a bit more cautious about trusting online services in general. It’s not just about one tool, but about how different platforms handle personal data overall. Even small things like checking settings, limiting permissions, or reading basic documentation seem to be more common habits now, especially for those who spend a lot of time online for work or communication.
