Guys, I need advice on how to treat deep vein thrombosis. Last week I flew 14 hours from Tokyo and woke up with a swollen, red calf. My roommate said it could be a blood clot. I went to urgent care and the doctor mentioned DVT but I didn’t catch the treatment details. I’m scared to go back to work with this pain. What meds or steps should I take immediately?

This scares me just reading it - my coworker got a DVT after a 13-hour flight from Seoul. Same thing: swollen red calf, burning pain, couldn’t walk normally. Doctor put her on blood thinners (rivaroxaban) right away for at least 3 months, told her to keep moving gently, elevate the leg, and wear compression stockings during the day. She said the pain eased in a few weeks but full recovery took a couple months. This page broke down the treatment steps clearly: blood clots in leg symptoms and warning signs  covers meds, what to expect, and warning signs. Don’t skip follow-ups; blood thinners are serious but super important.

A swollen, red calf after a long flight with suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is not something to manage at home or “wait out.” This can become serious if a clot travels to the lungs, so the priority is urgent medical reassessment today, not self-treatment.

Typically, if DVT is confirmed, doctors prescribe prescription anticoagulants (blood thinners) and decide dosing based on scans, bleeding risk, and overall health history. It’s important not to take any medication on your own or delay follow-up care, especially with ongoing pain and swelling.

Given your symptoms and what the urgent care doctor already mentioned, the safest step is to return to a clinic or emergency department immediately for imaging (usually an ultrasound) and proper treatment planning.

I’ve seen similar urgent care and troubleshooting discussions shared on sites like cellphone clinic, but in this case, this is definitely a situation where direct medical evaluation matters far more than online advice.
