I’m planning to replace my front door and keep going back and forth between fiberglass and steel options. Fiberglass seems attractive because of its appearance, while steel sounds appealing from a security standpoint. For those who have lived with either type for several years, what are the biggest advantages and drawbacks? Is there anything you wish you had known before making your choice?

Fiberglass won the debate for us mainly because of the harsh winters here. Our previous door warped slightly in the freezing cold, creating annoying drafts, but the new fiberglass material doesn’t budge at all. It honestly looks exactly like real oak without any of the high-maintenance sanding or staining. My neighbor went a completely different route to prioritize absolute protection against break-ins, and they had Steel doors installed — very secure, great warranty included as part of their package. Both options have great merits depending on your local climate.

Fiberglass and steel doors are made with the heavy material and also fix it for a long term use and easily available in market.
