I’ve been reading through a few law student forums lately, and it’s interesting to see what people struggle with most when it comes to assignments. A lot of the discussions focus on things like structuring arguments properly, applying case law in a clear way, and making sure the analysis actually answers the question.
IRAC is something that comes up so often! Some students feel as though they can use IRAC confidently, while others claim they get the theory but have trouble applying it. Other students seem to have trouble including precedent in a more seamless fashion and don’t want to just list cases as part of their legal analysis. Most students feel the greatest challenge to writing a good legal analysis remains clarity and logical flow.
Another common theme is improvement over time. Some people swear by detailed feedback from tutors, while others say that simply practicing more essays and reviewing model answers helped them improve faster. I practiced using a sample law assignment available online, and it really helped me understand how to structure arguments
I’m curious about everyone else’s experience. When it comes to improving your law assignments, what helped you most - structured feedback or just repeated practice?
