If you are a fan of Japanese motorsport history, there is one ultimate prize waiting for you in the late game of Forza Horizon 6. The 1998 Nissan #23 Pennzoil NISMO Skyline GT-R is arguably one of the most visually stunning and prestigious Barn Finds in the entire game.
This isn’t just any regular Skyline; it is a meticulous recreation of the legendary GT500 race car that absolutely dominated the All Japan GT Championship (JGTC) back in the late ‘90s. Tracking down this iconic yellow track monster takes a bit of work and specific campaign progression, but it is entirely worth the effort. Here is exactly how to trigger the rumor, where to find the barn, and what to expect once you get it out on the road.
How to Unlock the Barn Find Rumor
You can’t just drive straight to this barn right after the introductory showcase. The game locks this specific legend behind your campaign progression, so you will need to put in some time with your Collection Journal first to trigger the radio rumor.
To get the notification to pop, you must meet the following requirements:
Required Level: Pathfinder (Level 4)
Required Horizon Stamp: Pink Stamp
Once you finally secure that Pink Stamp, Mei or your festival coordinator will chime in over the radio with a rumor about a classic, yellow JGTC championship car abandoned somewhere in central Japan. That is your cue to head out.
Exact Barn Location
The game gives you a general search area, but the barn itself is tucked away deep within the mountainous Takashiro region. If you want to skip the aimless searching through the trees, here is the exact route to take:
Locate the Landmark: Head over to the western side of the Takashiro region. You want to aim just south of the starting point for the “Day Trip” Horizon Story.
Look for the Hairpin: Check your map for a sharp, prominent U-shaped hairpin turn on the asphalt mountain road.
Find the Off-Road Path: Drive down to that hairpin. Right along the road near a wooden parking area, you will spot a small dirt trail cutting off into the dense forest.
Spot the Barn: Follow that dirt trail up the hill heading eastwards through the trees. The old wooden barn sits tucked away in the forest, perfectly cradled right between the upper and lower sections of that U-shaped road.
Bonus Tip: While you are exploring this exact pocket of the map, make sure to check out the nearby waterfall. There is a highly valuable Treasure Car hidden right by the rushing water that you can easily scoop up at the same time.
Car Overview & Performance
After you initiate the cutscene and discover the car, you will have to wait for your festival mechanic to fully restore the iconic yellow livery and race-ready parts. If you are impatient and have cash to burn, you can always pay a credit fee in the Barn Finds menu to skip the restoration timer entirely.
When it’s ready, you are looking at a purebred racing machine with some seriously impressive historical stats:
Engine: 2.7L Twin-Turbocharged Inline-6 (RB26DETT)
Power: 493 bhp
Torque: 520 lb·ft
Drivetrain: Front-Engine, Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
Weight: 2,646 lbs (1,200 kg)
In the real world, this exact machine was driven by Erik Comas to capture the 1998 JGTC GT500 Driver’s Championship. Unlike the standard all-wheel-drive production Skylines of the era, this GT500 spec is rear-wheel drive and incredibly light, making it an absolute weapon on tight, technical asphalt roads and track layouts.
